Cisco's problems began when the company narrowly missed Wall Street's earnings expectations in the quarter that ended January 30, 2001 -- its first miss in 11 years. But Chambers remained optimistic about future growth...

Future Outlook

Chambers believed Cisco would boost its share of the $64 billion telecom market from 3% in late 2003 to at least 15%, though he did not specify a time frame. But some analysts felt that the going might get tougher as the economy rebounded...
